Conference 2006--Brain Injury effects not just the person who acquires the injury, but effects family, friends, & neighbors therefore The Indiana State Brain Injury Conference of 2006 dealt with those issues, subjects & topics as well. Brain Injury happens to men & women of all ages.
BUZZ WORDS at Conference 2006 were:
1. Non-Use,
2. Neuro-plasticity,
3. Constrain Restrictive Therapy,
4. and Measure of Success.
What causes TBI? The leading causes of TBI by a test done by
Langlois JA, Rutland-Brown W, Thomas KE are:
1. Falls (28%);
2. Motor vehicle-traffic crashes (20%);
3. Struck by/against events (19%); and
4. Assaults (11%).
What are the signs and symptoms of TBI?
The signs and symptoms of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be subtle. Symptoms of a TBI may not appear until days or weeks following the injury or may even be missed as people may look fine even though they may act or feel differently.
Look for TBI in disaster events, such as:
1. The World Trade Center attack or the Oklahoma City bombing, TBIs can be caused by flying debris, falls, being trampled, or blast waves from an explosion.
2. In the chaos following mass casualty events, diagnosis of a TBI may be missed.
3. Timely diagnosis & treatment of long term consequences of a TBI is needed.
The signs and symptoms of TBI can be subtle.

Executive Director, Brain Injury Association of Indiana, Inc. Manage daily administration procedures & programs to implement the general policies established by the Board of Directors. Oversees fundraising, financial, public relations, administrative, & advocacy activities. Implement strategic plan through the coordination of standing committees, as well as solicit funding from individual, corporate, & grant supporters of the mission.
Also, organize annual conference & other educational programming. Actively serve as spokesperson for the association and coordinate statewide collaborative efforts of support, advocacy, education, and prevention. Must have working knowledge of fundraising, health care, & possess exceptional skills in leadership, communication, organization, & entrepreneurship. Requires Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred.
