State News---Brain Injury Association of Indiana (BIAI) MISSION: The BIAI is a nonprofit service organization comprised of people with brain injury, their families, & concerned people who are dedicated to creating a better future by reducing the incidence & effects of brain injury through public & professional awareness/education, advocacy, support, & by facilitating inter-agency commitment & collaboration.
VISION: BIAI envisions a reduction in the incidence & effects of brain injury in Indiana, & that people with brain injury & its families will be served well, understood, empowered, & supported to live full & meaningful lives.
EDUCATION: BIAI serves it mission of education of the public about brain injury by offering a 2-day annual conference/seminar & various in-service opportunities. BIAI offers types of continuing education credits for the professionals who attend its programs. BIAI also spreads community awareness of brain injury prevention through presentations at schools, public hearings, & public forums.
SUPPORT: BIAI offers a network of 15 statewide support groups each month. Support groups offer the opportunity to learn more about brain injury & the available services by meeting with others who are facing or have faced similar challenges.
MEMBERSHIP: By becoming a member of BIAI, you help support such initiatives as the Indiana Family Help line, the Jackson Family Library, our resource directory, & outreach to the community to increase prevention, awareness, & understanding of how a brain injury affects lives. BIAI offers various levels of membership such as survivor (the brain injured person), family member, professional, & corporate.
RESOURCES: Toll-free help line, up-to-date website, resource directory of Indiana services, & the Jackson Family Library all provide informational support for brain injury survivors, family members, & professionals. This is the 25th year of Indiana becoming the first chartered chapter of the Brain Injury Association of America and the ONLY association in Indiana dedicated to brain injury.
