Voice for New Beginnings By Mark Porman
It has been 26 years since my accident, April 17, 1981. How long have you been dealing with your own troubles? Have you considered helping out with the support group, or maybe writing an article for our Newsletter? Maybe you could help to plan an outing or a picnic this Spring?
Do you have things to do each & everyday? This was a hard thing for me, back when I first moved out on my own. Feeling bored & so much time alone, was a huge problem. If you too, are feeling these problems lurking in your shadows, then do something about them! Voice your thoughts & needs.
Perhaps put together a small group, from the monthly Brain Injury group. Sit down & think of a list of things that could be done. Both long term & short term. Then, bring it up at the monthly meetings. Put in your own thoughts, new things can be thought of too.
Maybe you can make up a kind of daily idea book--make one for each member. Compare yourselves to each other’s progress for encouragement, establish new goals for yourself, or seek a new mentor. It could be fun--getting new ideas all at the same time (see page 6).
Each person can then write what the group has been doing--a journal of ongoing ideas. Each can read what he/she has been striving for or what concerns are on your mind. The Brain Injury Association is for gathering & sharing info as well. ##
