IPAS can help with disabilities by:
Provide information/technical assistance to empower individuals to advocate (appropriately communicate) for their rights;
Empower individuals to make their own decisions & be fully participating members of their communities;
Investigate, or investigate, concerning reports of abuse or neglect of individuals living in the community, residential facilities or correctional facilities;
Assist in securing the appropriate medical, psychiatric or habilitation services;
Assist families with the entitled free & appropriate public education services for children.
Help gain access to public places & governmental buildings;
Correct discrimination of differently-abled attempting to obtain housing or employment;
Helping to secure the assistive technology services & devices needed to be independent;
Help to assure private information is not released without an individual's permission;
Help secure the rights of differently-abled individuals to make choices as they prepare for employment through Vocational Rehabilitation or Ticket to Work training programs;
Help to ensure voting machines & polling places are accessible to individuals with disabilities. ##
