On January 26,2007 Woodward chose to travel to Iraq to report the news as he saw it. Woodard was riding in a tank that passed over an exploding devise & Woodward received severe injuries. Woodward’s head was hit severely causing massive damage to his brain. He was immediately transported to an Iraqi hospital, then to Germany, & finally to the USA (the normal procedure for the USA injured). After months of inpatient therapy, Woodard’s perseverance paid off when he was finally released from the hospital to continue outpatient therapy & resume his life. The month’s that followed were difficult. Woodward & wife, Lee, recount the effects of the traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a book, “In An Instant.” The book is filled with details of Woodward’s struggle to survive from Irag to USA, to rehab, & to life with his family. Also included is the family’s struggle (Lee-wife, & Mack-14 years old, Cathryn-12 years old ) to survive. Bob & Lee have set up the Bob Woodward Family Fund for traumatic brain injuries to help soldiers. (More of Woodward’s Story in Upcoming Issues.)
